Inaugural Symposium 2011

In December 2011, the Cultures of the Suburbs Network held its Inaugural Symposium at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. The event included a keynote paper by Professor Mark Gottdiener (SUNY Buffalo), readings by Professor Joanne Jacobson (Yeshiva University, New York) and Booker prize winning author Roddy Doyle, together with a ‘salon’ of papers on aspects of the suburbs, ranging from science fiction in the suburbs, to eighteenth-century Dublin landscapes, and contemporary art practices in Lisbon.

Links to a selection of extended versions of the salon papers are given in the ‘Working Papers’ page. Below are the links to the original poster and programme for the event and a report on the day by our Symposium postgraduate bursary delegate Kate Scarth, PhD candidate at the University of Warwick.
